Do you know where you can find over 200,000 pieces of literature that black people haven’t read? No not the library, but of course I am referring to the responses to a google search for “cure for sunburn.” Black people read just as much from the library as white people; not enough.
The likelihood of a black person getting sun burnt is about as likely a white person at a Hitman Sammy Sam concert. It just doesn’t happen. When white people go out in the sun, they apply a great amount of suntan lotion, to protect their white skin. Black people will use little or none at all. If a black person is to apply anything, it will certainly be Cocoa Butter Lotion, which doesn’t serve the purpose of sun protection, but they like it, and don’t get burned anyways (check back for a full article on Cocoa Butter later).
Being the token black friend in the group is another thing black people like, but they like meeting other token black friends too, so you should definitely consider inviting your one black friend on a trip of some sort, spring break, a road trip, or maybe to your college team’s bowl game (this is the least likely however, as your black friend will probably already be going, as a member of the team). Don’t bother inviting your black friend on ski trips, or a cruise up near Alaska, black people don’t like the cold so the odds of seeing another black person are minimal. That and most importantly, these trips don’t provide the hilarity for a black person to see their white friends get sun burnt.
As much as they like not getting sun burnt, they absolutely think it is “off tha chain” seeing a family of 5 white people getting off their plain in Chicago, looking like they are those fans heading to a Chicago Bulls game in full body paint. Those people for the record are never black.
Sure black people may get burnt, but they don’t get burnt like this white kid you see here, and they like that.
Black people do get sun burned. Their skin just gets darker instead of turning red. Check out the blog for an audio commentary on Skin Cancer Myths and the African-American Community.
To be honest, no, we do not tend to get sunburned. We do tan. There is a difference between tan and burn. It is the pain(and the glow from a tan as opposed to the lobstery-ness from a burn). Whether we tan or burn has no bearing on which race is more likely to get skin cancer. 😀
So true. And the cold does suck.
wtf…this is so not true..
Well, I don’t know about “black people” but as an individual person of a beautiful cocoa complexion, I use sunblock on myself and my family; We are at risk from skin cancer caused by the sun just like everyone one else.
Yeah this one isn’t true and makes very little sense. Also, what black person actually likes being the token black friend lol? Please do more research
Yes. You are right.
im originally from africa, now residing in australia. let me settle the issue once and for all. pure bloods, i mean 100% africans never get sunburnt even if they spend the whole day in the sun PERIOD!
Hey im African too… so where you from. give us a quick intro.
What ignorance is that?
Damn, homeboy so burnt, he look like sould food. Get him some coco buttah to go with his skin cancer.
Well Im light skinnededed. And I get burnt on my nose and sholders but thats about it. heehee!!
One question for jj………..what the f*ck is a pure blood? Quick fyi…untill you open your mouth to speak we are all “pure-blood” sweetie.
Actually we are not all pure blood. Because of the slave trade many blacks in other countries find themselves being mixed with Native American, European etc.
there are a lot of other races besides white in anchorage, alaska, even a lot of black people. i didn’t know that until i went there. there is a military base there, so there are a lot of different races/cultures. i’m white, i hate getting sunburned.. actually i hate not being tan too!
ya i was gunna get on that blacks dont like the cold.. i went to Alaska being black myself and i saw many blacks that lived there.. and all the blacks in detroit and all the eastern states where it snows and are heavily populated with blacks???… but one things for sure a black person will take the cold over the heat any day
Uhhh, I am a Black American have a darker skin complexion ad get sun burnt, often. And Black Americans use shea butter, it is a natural moisturizer and sun block. I am not sure who is writing this blog, but they need to check facts a little more in depth. Even stereotypes are supposed to have some truth to them… or so I have heard.
uhhh I think you know damn well what that poster meant by “pure blood.” People who are 100% Black of southern parts of Africa with the darkest skin tones do not get sunburnt as they are so-called “pure” with no admixture having altered their skin tone, thus not making it more susceptible to the harmful effects of the sun.
I’ve been told, that black people, who have fair complexions can get sunburned, however I’ve never seen it happen. They just get a few shades darker, then eventually lighten up, after the they are no longer exposed to the sun.
And to the first post…getting darker does not equal being sunburned. When skin is sun burned, it turns red (because it is actually burned) then eventually the skin peels away. You don’t see people with dark complexions walking around with their skin peeling after being exposed to the sun.
uh BlackSmith – yeah, if you got close enough you would see someone black who has experienced sunburn (even mildly) and had their skin peel days later. I KNOW because I experienced sunburn first hand when I went on hol to Greece.
It was mild, thank God, but I couldn’t bear to have anything (including clothing) on my shoulders for a few days and the skin later began to peel. Yuk. Gave me some teensy insight into what my white peers experience. CERTAINLY don’t want any more such experiences though.
Im light skinned and i live in a cold country (england) and if i go on holiday for 5 weeks as i have i will sweat i will get tired from the sun but i will not burn same with all my cuzions and brother still i think thats genes from our ansestors changing to the habitat to live under such hot habittats like for the reson of the broad nostrols (mine arnt tht big) so we can take in more air so we can cool our selves down.
And coca butter thats the just the best lotion and it smells nice thats all black people dont cream to protect them selves from the sun we cream because as soon as we come out the shower a skin ahses with white ashy spots around out hand and legs etc and cream solves that problem and thats why we have to cream plus it stops you from wincling so quickly.
That’s right, Negroes! How do you like it when the shoe’s on the other foot? Ahahahaha!!!
WTF is this sposed ta mean.
What are you talking about Honkey?
I’m black and grew up on the south side of Chicago. As a child I played from morning to night with my friends and siblings all summer long. I have NEVER needed sunscreen nor have I or anyone in my family ever had a sunburn. My children who are now college students have NEVER had a sunburn. We are the lightest to the darkest shades of brown. Bottom line melanin is our natural sun screen. The more we’re exposed to intense sunlight the darker our skin becomes. It’s like going from SPF 20 to SPF 50. When the intensity of sun exposure decreases the skin lightens a few shades. As an RN for nearly two decades none of our patients admitted for skin cancer were black/african. Blacks can stay out in the sun as long as we want our skin darkens to protect us, it doesn’t burn or peel. Those who are bi-racial and very light, i.e. lacking melanin may very well burn when exposed for prolong periods of time.
That’s so wrong; where did you go to college because I went tubing two weekends ago and I was burned. Itches like hell and stung like hell. And now I’m peeling. Although I’m the only one in my entire family-grandparents down-to be sunburned it happens. Then again I was on the river from 10 in the morning to 6 in the evening.
[…] Stuff Black People Like: Not Getting Sunburnt […]
Okay. Black people can get sunburn. Maybe not in Chicago like someone wrote. But take a trip to south america around the equator (I know ya’ll negroes don’t travel no where so that aint gonna happen) and trust me you will burn and peel. Of course you wont turn red. Perhaps if you are 100% black (blue-black, midnight black) maybe you might be spared. I’m 95% black (dark chocolate black) and I have burned and peeled. (not very often though)
Who talks about black race because black is beautiful and im black and don’t appriciate some man talking about my race either cause that is races. You don’t do that cause you can get ganged over stuff like that people! So don’t ever evr ever talk about black people cause you never know what you can get in return!
Wow a shining example of a fine upstanding citizen right there.
You sound like you’re saying that black people will act as wickedly as a kik member… Think about it…
Oops kkk not kik… Spell check switched it… But still… Common. Don’t bring black people down with your remarks.
Dear Lazer,
Thanks for your comment. Though…. I must apologize as I inform you that I am going to disregard everything you have said. Simply because, and again I apologize, I can’t take the words of a twelve year old too seriously. It has nothing to do with you being black. Or for that matter being a woman. But the fact that you said “I don’t appreciate some man talking about my race because that is “RACES.” RACES!!!! are you kidding me!!! That’s funny. And no…. I don’t think black people are dumb. But you are.
Dear Aria,
I also lived in Chicago, and I am Nigerian. While I lived there I never needed sunscreen. But I lived in southern Arizona for a few years, and trust me, if you live where the sun is out year-round and you can cook eggs on the concrete… EVERYONE that lives there will need sunscreen.
black people
This is funny…but not true. I had the worse case of sunburn when I went to Jamaica and it didn’t have the same symptoms as a white person would have. I didn’t turn red but i was itching everywhere the sun hit me. I had little fine bumps everywhere and I thought it was a bad case of eczema. But turns out…it was sunburn. Please wear sunscreen colored folks…we burn too.
who ever started this web site about black people really need to shut the fuck up because they have no clue about black people and how we take care of our body,so if u want to say something about black people please have your facts straight cause if you dont you could really get hurt and now thats a fact
I agree (I’m white, but it’s the same with that ‘what white people like’ website)
Wow funny t-shirts, check out these
i am black n get burnt on holiday i think u r a dickhead u may not see it as clear on us but we still feel da burn u need to get your iq tested because not even my littel cousin is stupid enough to get burnt on holiday
Those of you who get burnt probably have light skin. It’s not rocket science.
ok but yet we can still get skin cancer so go some where with that bs
racist cock. 🙂
Who the fuck wrote this, a 18y/o just out of HS who thinks they know it all? Where is the proof of evidence? You saying words does not make it true, facts & evidence makes it true.
Sense of humor. Get one.
I’m Black and have never had a a sunburn, but I have tanned to a much darker shade. And no matter where I’ve travel in the U.S. or abroad I still didn’t burn or need sunscreen. And to the Bruthas and Sistahs who read the comments. Do you get the feeling that some of the comments written on hear are by people pretending to be Black claiming to get sunburned. Their so called slang ain’t quite right. Or they speak in third person such as, “ya’ll negroes don’t travel” instead of “we negroes don’t travel”. I won’t even get started on the “negroes” statement. Or the other comment “colored folks”. Give me a break. When the last time you heard a Black person refer to themselves as negroe or colored. Feel me!!!
This is a funny subject matter. Well, i certainly tan to a much darker brown every summer. I don’t sunburn and dont own one bottle of sunblock. I thought it was common knowledge that Blacks dont sunburn. If that was the case those half nake African through out the centuries would have been writhing in serious pain. As a matter of fact I traveled to Africa, its hot as hell in some area. and guess what people, still no sunburn, just a darker brown.
Okay… you can’t just look at a few black people and say that they all do the same thing. And have the same type interest. Or any other race… That is very stereotypical and doltish to me…
Everyone has their own personality… It doesn’t depend on race
Of all the ones on this list, I found this one the funniest.
However, I must correct the authour that there are indeed black people in Alaska. I as a tourist saw one myself. One of the tour guides I got through Icy Strait Point had an adopted child from Haiti and sure enough he was as black as most people in Haiti.
Ok. all I have to say about this is that this is all a bunch of booty. There is no reason to be coming at us black fols like that. Yes, I am black and half the shit on this page is false. FYI there are plenty of country bumpkin ghetto ass white boys out there that think they are good at sports and like to eat our food and think they can”BAGG” all the black girls as girlfriends and then go and play them like a bad game of poker. Yes we like our food and out sportas but yah white ppl got some shit to. For ex. yall are always saying like. OMG like, no she totally like didnt. And trhen like. I was all like. So dont come at the black ppl unless u wanna deal with the shit that we gonna retalliate with. Thank you and have a nice day!(If ya dumb ass cant tell, I’m being sarcastic.)
For those of you who don’t understand what he’s saying, check out this website.
Furthermore, look for the book called;
‘Black Kings in America’ mentioned on CNN’s Larry King in the form of a question to Michael Moore on 7/27/2010

all I can say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
im black and ive stood in the sun on hours with an ass of other black people and in all 18 years of my life ive never seen a black person get sunburned so until i see otherwise illl say black people dont get sunburned
oh yea and john is also correct…thats the biggest myth of all is that all black people are very dark which isnt true
this is tongue in cheek humour right? your not really being serious on this site?
They do get sunburned and they also get skin cancer. You just can’t tell as easily.
Thinkb4ublink allow me to speak up for Lazer (and I am sure many other black people). I don’t appreciate you saying anything regarding black people or the black race. Your narrow minded racist views of my race is both insulting and WRONG. Your apology is patronizing and pathetic, but very typical of a white person. Why don’t you point out all the harm white people have done to get what they like, and stop giving your unwanted, unappreciated and unwarranted opinions regarding black people. What a pompous Jerk you are!!! If I have misspelled anything or my grammar is off do forgive.
The token black friend thing was so true that I had to stop reading this for a second and put my hot wings in the toaster oven. I also do pride myself on not turning red quickly (although we will turn a darker shade of brown if exposed to enough sun) sometimes the sun can be a bitch and get really hot so I put sunscreen on anyways.
Especially in Columbia where it feels like your skin is actually cooking.
For people saying blacks don’t like the cold….I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed a decrease in the black percentage when traveling from RI (eastern, near the north) to Vermont, a much colder but also more rural state (okay, maybe cold isn’t a factor, but what do I know? I’m too lazy to research). Back home, I grew up going to public schools from grades 1-8. I met a lot of black faces, some of which I befriended and another whom I had a crush on. Then I went a privately run Catholic school grades 9-12. It’s a small school, so you can expect to see less black students, and pretty much less of everything else. Also expensive. Still, there were at least 3 black students to every class I took. At LEAST.
Then I decided to go to school in Vermont. Still enrolling, first year here. Something stood out to me. There were no black students in any of my classes. And I can only identify two black students (one is a friend, the other lives in my dorm). And only /one/ black person lives in my dorm, out of 50something whites. It’s not like the city isn’t populated either (in Vermont standards anyway). It would have to be the most diverse city.
Traveling around a bit between cities outside of school, I didn’t notice many black faces either. You can say I had some culture shock.
The school I currently attend has a lot more students than my previous school. It is also privately owned and expensive.
I think I see 1 black student for every 200 white students |:
iunno. Maybe I’m getting the wrong hunch and the states further north have more African Americans, and that it’s just Vermont. If any of you have examples to share, I’m open ears.
“,, I am really thankful to this topic because it really gives useful information -:”
,;” that seems to be a great topic, i really love it :`*
Wow and people think I’m obsessed with race pshh this is obsession. Yes I like that I have Melanin but I don’t feel the need to blog about it.
no one like s being sunburnt regardless of you race because being sunburnt hurts….just sayin
What people fail to realize in this post is that it is NOT implying black people NEVER sunburn. To quote “Sure black people may get burnt, but they don’t get burnt like this white kid you see here, and they like that.” So people being “LOL I’m black and get sunburnt”, please read the entire article before trying to enlighten.
im black i live in colorado and i got sunburn i didnt think black people got burned but yup my back was so red and my skin peelin was so nasty
whoever wrote these things are hugee idiots. omgg lmfaoo i had to laugh so hard. wow i will seriously for the dumbass that wrote this. oh, gosh you mad my day. And also you cannot categorize a whole race and saying this is what they like, that makes no sense. We are all human and like different things. good luck in life 🙂
I’m not light skinned and I’ve gotten a sunburn. I don’t turn red but my skin starts to peel. I’ve only gotten a sunburn twice in my life though. One of my white friend gets a sunburn on the top of her head every time she is outside in hot weather.
I am a certified cosmetologist and I kno all about HOW the skin tans and its purpose so to clear up whats unclear here….
Everyone has melanocytes in their skin black, white, asian, etc. These Melanocytes produce melanin(protective pigment) when exposed to any kind of UVB(UltraVioletBurning) exposure to protect the underneath layers of ur skin from being burnt. The lighter u are born the less melanocytes u have which means the less protective pigment u have in ur skin against UV rays. The darker u are born the less chance you have in getting burnt bc you have more melanocytes already producing the protective pigment. Its not about black or white. I have very dark white friends(naturally dark but they are caucasian) and they dont burn bc they have a lot of melanocytes. And to the people that want to poke fun at skin cancer you might eat those words one day. Skin cancer is not racist, it doesn’t look at skin colors it takes whatever vicitims it can get. So pls dont make fun of something that kills thousands of ppl every year….it has claimed enough of my family: (.
God Bless EVERYONE!
this sound racist some stuff we don’t do and the dreads its african style not black people style i know because im african
Maaaaan just kill y’all self already you people smell like dogs/bolonga anyway
BLACK PEOPLE DO GET SUNBURNS!!! I am a “dark skinned African American” I get sunburned “every summer”. I just came back from a vacation with blisters and all. Most white people refuse to believe that blacks can burn in the sun so they try to downplay it or call it something else such as, sun poisening, which is actually a worse type of sunburn. They say “maybe you have a virus” …….until I say no, it is a f…king sun burn!!!! So everyone who has a problem believing that black people can get a sunburn….”GET OVER YOUR F…ING SELF!!!!
Im black and I sometimes get bad sun burn. Im 45 and for a long time I didnt get sunburn just my summer tan. Then i went to the dermatologist with bumps on my face and she told me I had them because Im allergic to the sun. I told her “black people cant be allergic to the sun” and she told me they sure can. When you are allergic you have a reaction to the sun exposure on your face and get a butterfly rash on your cheeks and over the bridge of your nose. You can look up autoimmune response to the sun. And once again to everyone whether Africsn, Black American or White. Some Blacks can get sun burned.
By the way there is some Irish a few generations ago.
This is just racist
